Legendary Hip Hop Producer Faces Arrest Warrant for Child Support

Posted on November 15,2012 in Child Support

Multiplatinum hip hop hit producer Scott Storch reportedly is the subject of an arrest warrant for failing to appear at a Florida court proceeding regarding back child support owed to the mother of his child. According to MTV News, Storch owes $28,300 in child support arrearages, and then missed a court date in the ongoing child support proceedings. However, Storch’s attorney, Guy Spiegelman, assured MTV News that his client would take care of the debt by the end of the week. Once the debt is paid, Storch’s attorney anticipates that the court will lift the previously issued arrest warrant. Throughout his career, Storch has produced a variety of smash hip hop tunes, including 50 Cent’s “Candy Shop” and Chris Brown’s “Run It”. Once widely sought after for his production skills by wildly successful artists such as Beyonce, Dr. Dre, and Christina Aguilera, Storch’s business and personal life began to spiral downward in 2006, mostly due to a highly-publicized drug habit and lavish spending habits. Storch also landed in trouble with the IRS, among other financial problems. Most recently, Storch was arrested in Las Vegas in February, 2012, for cocaine possession. He was later released from custody on a $5,000 bond. As this case illustrates, the penalties for failing to pay child support, as well as for failing to appear at court hearings concerning child support, can be severe. It is not uncommon for child support debtors to face jail time for unpaid child support debts in most states, including the state of Illinois. Other potential penalties for failing to pay child support can include the suspension of one’s driver’s license, reporting to the credit bureau, interception of federal and state income tax refunds, and the seizure of bank accounts and other assets. If you owe back child support, there are measures that you can take to reduce the amount of your child support obligation based on your current financial situation, and to minimize your exposure to the negative penalties that a back child support debt can bring about. Contact your St. Charles, Illinois, child support attorney today, and let us help you avoid the potentially severe consequences of failing to pay child support as ordered.
